PopCap has been a subsidiary for EA for 10 years now. Do you feel they've been utilized well?

I have been a huge Peggle and Bejeweled kick as of late after finally getting into the Puzzle Quest franchise. This led me to take stock of PopCap's last decade of output during the huge transition the casual games maker had towards mobile. Their notable releases during this time with EA have been: * Plants vs Zombies 2 (mobile) * Peggle 2 * Peggle Blast (mobile) * Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare * Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 * Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for the Neighborville * Plants vs. Zombies 3 (mobile) They've also released some other Bejeweled and PvZ mobile spin-offs dealing with cards and the trendchasing-like. As a whole I think it's very curious how pigeonholed they've been. No follow-up to Zuma's Revenge, no true Peggle 3 or Bejeweled 4, Feeding Frenzy 2 got a PSN release in 2010 but has been a dormant IP since, and Bookworm Adventures never got to see a push as a Scrabble alternative. Even just looking at Zynga or King you'll notice that the big puzzle companies tend to diversify so the output by PopCap has been strange to say the least. Plants vs Zombies 3 hasn't been updated since September and has yet to reach 10 million downloads on Android. Napkin math based on review count seems to indicate that it has only reached around 5% of users the second entry has. Heck it isn't even listed on the PvZ sub-site despite being announced for early access in 2019: https://www.ea.com/games/plants-vs-zombies Considering the diminishing returns the Garden Warfare series has had in terms of sales, I am very concerned that PopCap lacks a clear future. submitted by /u/SpecialistProfessor7 [link] [comments]
