The mini-games and multiplayer modes add even more replayability and fun. A game not to be missed. --- Attack of the Fanboy - Elliott Gatica - 4 / 5 stars Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a solid celebration for the 20th anniversary of the series' inception. It caters to fans who have stuck around to see the next big thing and does so in a complete package with new surprises and things to come. --- Cultured Vultures - Ashley Bates - 8 / 10 A fabulous collection of one of gaming's most deceptively difficult games, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is pure, unadulterated fun. --- Destructoid - Chris Carter - 8 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania was a pleasant surprise, in that it doesn’t mess too much with a formula that works and it makes strides to welcome newcomers into the fold. Not all of its stages are created equal, but this is a great entry point into a series that’s been lacking one on modern platforms for a long while. --- Digital Trends - Emily Morrow - 3 / 5 stars Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is a welcome, but imprecise remake that's lacking detail. --- Eurogamer - Martin Robinson - Recommended There are missteps and a new look that doesn't quite pop, but Banana Mania ends up an enjoyable celebration of the series in its prime. --- GameByte - Brett Claxton - 7.5 / 10 Even with its issues, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a delight to play. It fills you with nostalgia whilst also showing the strengths of the series. It will be interesting to see where the franchise goes next. --- GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 8 / 10 Quote not yet available --- GameSpot - Heidi Kemps - 8 / 10 There isn't much new in this best-of compilation, but when the core package is this well-made and feature-packed, that's easy to overlook. --- GamesBeat - Mike Minotti - 5 / 5 This is the best Super Monkey Ball has ever been. --- GamingTrend - David Flynn - 75 / 100 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is just as fun and infuriating as I remember. It's a content-complete package that celebrates the series. It can feel a bit too limited, with no online play or unlockable characters in minigames, but it's still a unique experience you can't get anywhere else. --- God is a Geek - Sean Smith - 8 / 10 Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is an excellent time with bags of replay value, potential in its online leaderboards and competitive play, and works a treat in local co-op thanks to the fun, if sometimes superficial minigames. --- Hardcore Gamer - Kirstin Swalley - 4 / 5 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is way too much fun. --- Nintendo Life - Jon Cartwright - 7 / 10 It may not be saying much but Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is the best the series has been in almost two decades and newcomers are bound to find a lot to love. It wears its heart on its sleeve and clearly the team has true passion for the franchise. It's packed full of content, new ways to play and there are so many extras and improvements that never existed in the original. Unfortunately, the engine beneath it all isn't quite up to the job. What they've achieved with Unity simply isn't on par with the originals and while the main game is still enjoyable, many of the party games are severely hindered. Until Monkey Target returns to its former glory, we cannot truly say Super Monkey Ball is back. --- NintendoWorldReport - Neal Ronaghan - 8 / 10 Want to punch your friends in local multiplayer with a big boxing glove? Monkey Fight is right there, pal. This is not the straight port or remake of the original GameCube Monkey Ball I might have asked for, but it's a great game in its own right that brings to light a lot of what I loved about those earlier entries in the franchise. This is a lively, amusing video game that is stuffed with challenging marble-rolling stages, good-natured multiplayer games, and a lot of charm. --- NookGaming - Adam Carr - 9 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a roaring success and a fitting anniversary title for a mostly forgotten series. When it comes to fun, challenge, and charm, Banana Mania delivers in spades. It’s a crying shame about a lack of online, even if the leaderboards were a neat inclusion. I don’t think I have smiled, raged, paddied, and cheered this much in any other game this year. It’s a good time to monkey around, and I am excited to see what the future holds for the series. --- PCMag - Will Greenwald - 4 / 5 stars Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania combines 300 stages from Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe into a single, massive package of entertaining and occasionally sadistic ball-rolling action. --- PlayStation Universe - Adam Byrne - 8.5 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania boasts a triumphant return for everyone's favourite primate puzzler, bringing along with it potentially 100s of hours of gameplay that long-time fans and newcomers alike will easily go bananas for. --- Press Start - Harry Kalogirou - 9 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a confident and addictive reminder of why Monkey Ball was so popular back in the day. It truly feels like a celebration of the franchise that's jam-packed with content, bonuses, and unlocks. Monkey Ball still holds up with addictive challenge, fantastic music and a goofy, yet endearing premise, and all of it is accentuated by small yet meaningful additions that makes it more accessible than ever before. --- Prima Games - Lucas White - 8.5 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a moment of stubborn insistence these games are dope, and it does everything it can to justify its stance. It’s the truth, after all, and it’s nice to see how gracefully Banana Mania achieves its goal. It’s a feel-good moment on the Super Monkey Ball timeline. --- Screen Rant - Eva Herinkova - 3 / 5 stars Overall, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a competent and well-done remaster of the first three Monkey Ball console games. There are issues with how engaging those games can be, mostly due to the nature of the franchise's arcade style, so there are caveats about replayability. --- Shacknews - TJ Denzer - 8 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania delivers a mostly delicious and nearly never-ending buffet of bananas and challenges to keep pretty much any player rolling for a good, long time. --- Spaziogames - Italian - 8 / 10 Fun and unforgiving, Banana Mania is Super Monkey Ball at its finest. --- Stevivor - Steve Wright - 7 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is weird, expansive and tricky. I just know die-hard fans are going to love that combination, but I’m not sure about anyone else. --- TechRaptor - William Worrall - 7 / 10 For fans, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a no-brainer, and even newcomers will find tons of fun here. Some slightly annoying gameplay can't hinder the mountain of content and extras tied into this package. --- TheSixthAxis - Dominic Leighton - 7 / 10 Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a solid, unglamorous return to the series greatest moments. We’ve been steering monkeys in balls across increasingly difficult landscapes for 20 years now, and while Banana Mania doesn’t return the series to its hallowed position of old, I don’t want it to stop quite yet. --- VGC - Chris Scullion - 4 / 5 stars Banana Blitz is a joyous celebration of what are still arguably the three best games in the series. There are a few slight performance issues and we have no doubt die-hards will argue about the overall feel, but there's a wealth of entertaining banana-hunting here regardless. --- Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 8 / 10 It's hard to fault Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania for giving us exactly what it promises. It's a compilation of three older games with some gussied-up visuals and some nice new features. If you've never played the franchise before but were always curious, then this is probably the best place to start. If you're a longtime fan looking to re-experience some older Monkey mania, then it'll be exactly what you need. It's nothing more and nothing less. --- Xbox Achievements - Richard Walker - 80 / 100 Expertly aping past glories, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is a definitive compendium of remastered classics, stuffed to the gills with bonus modes, extra characters, and party games. It is, without question, the most fun you can have rolling a monkey in a ball around a maze - that is an empirical fact. You’d be bananas not to buy it. --- submitted by /u/cloudsheep0 [link] [comments]
