Steamcharts is the source for these numbers
Yesterday's peak was over 218 000 so it went up on day 2. I assume there are also a lot of people playing this on consoles.
Konami didn't even announce a release date before, it got these numbers on a surprise launch.
Did people expect the numbers would be this big? I wasn't expecting this. Why are the numbers this big?
One might say it is popular just because it is yugioh and a lot of people are nostalgic for the anime or the fun they had with the physical tcg, but if that's the main reason then why didn't the other yugioh games get nearly this big? Wouldn't those other games be better than Master Duel for anyone looking for nostalgia?
Also do you expect this game will be able to maintain big numbers and officially be a big success to rival the other big digital card games on pc? Or do you expect the numbers to quickly and drastically shrink for some reason? Will Konami fuck this up somehow and end up with a steamchart that looks a lot like Artifact's steep decline in players after launch?
Comparison to other card games peak numbers according to steamcharts:
* Artifact Classic - 60,740
* Magic Duels - 14,544
* Magic 2014 - 14,038
* Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 - 3,946
* Magic: The Gathering — Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 - 707
* Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links - 21,377
* Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist : Link Evolution - 1,219
* Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist - 1,610
* Shadowverse - 23,929
* GWENT: The Witcher Card Game - 4,862
* The Elder Scrolls: Legends - 8,781
* Eternal Card Game - 2,855
* Mythgard - 476
* Infinity Wars - Animated Trading Card Game - 1,604
* Prismata - 121,154 (A mysterious massive 1 month spike in May 2018 for this unpopular early access card game. I don't know why or if this number is legit. If you ignore that one month, the highest peak is 2,205. You might vaguely remember this game from a popular reddit post by the devs in 2014.)
Unfortunately we don't have numbers from the big card games off steam to compare this to. It is possible Hearthstone, Runeterra, or Magic: Arena would have had an even bigger number if they had launched on steam. We will never know. But feel free to guess how you think these 4 games rank in terms of the number of players.
(I made a thread about this yesterday and got removed for Rule 3.2. This time I tried to match the amount of content in this thread about a different game's steamchart numbers, so I hope is OK that I gave this a 2nd try, and I hope this is enough to not get removed again.) submitted by /u/suchapain
