Hey! We're three brothers who grew up playing games like Settlers 2-4, classic Anno and the Impressions games (Caesar, Pharaoh) etc. We always wanted a peaceful, calm game that gave us the same vibes, which we could play together, so we made one!
About the game
Folklands is a classic settlement builder where you grow your settlement from small beginnings, through ever expanding resource-refinement chains, trying to make your folks happy. It's a peaceful experience that you can play alone or with your friends, and we're also adding support for Steam workshop and Moddb.
Where we are
We launched a playable demo on steam a while back which got great feedback for the feeling we were trying to recreate, and the visual style of the buildings and folks. Since then, we've worked on rewriting the interface to be more modern, scalable and feature-rich, we've added a whole new set of ground graphics, as well as worked a bunch on all the gameplay-specific issues that were raised. We really love this genre, and seeing so many fellow classic settlement builder players play the game and tell us what they love and want more of / want changed really motivates us!
Our main focus now is polishing and improving the gameplay features for the upcoming next fest and making sure players see that we take the feedback seriously!

Planned features
We made a wiki with some of the planned features and progression for the game, which you can read more about here:

Steam Next fest
We're participating in the upcoming Steam Next fest Oct 9th, and all the feedback we got from the current demo is coming together in the updated demo we're releasing in October.
Gameplay video
We made a short preview gameplay video of the development build:

How do we stand out from the rest?
We're trying to make a game which gives players the same calm, fun feeling we got when we first discovered the genre. Where other games in this genre often stay singleplayer or focus too much on combat or an extensive tech tree, we are trying to stay focussed on a calm, relaxing (but also challenging) gameplay experience that you can enjoy with your friends.
Our game also runs on both Windows, Mac and Linux, with cross-platform multiplayer on any of these devices.
Finally, by adding mod / workshop support, and having a distinct and recognizable visual style we feel this is a game that you would really enjoy.
About us
We're three brothers, located in Norway. Two of us are developers by trade, and one of us is an experienced fantasy map maker with an amazing eye for details and creativity. While we fight like any other siblings, we also share a passion, and we hope that shows!
Please let us know your thoughts and ideas, and don't hesitate to comment if you try out the demo now or in October! submitted by /u/zegenie
