Upheaval - Alex Leone - Open World Narrative Roguelike in a Fantasy Wilderness

Hi /r/Games! I'm Alex Leone, a solo developer making Upheaval, a text-based fantasy roguelike with both a graphical and a command line version.

* Steam page
* Gameplay video
* Press kit

I love games where you get to know the world very well as you play: my favorite game of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, where you can watch each of the citizens of Clock Town go about their lives over the three-day cycle, and you have opportunities to interfere in their lives for better or for worse. I wanted to make a game like that where the player has more freedom to interfere with the characters and experiment with how different paths can turn out. I have zero art skills, and I have some experience making text games, so I went in that direction! I'm still adding content and features to the game, but you can play an early demo on Steam and itch.io.

From the Steam page:

Master the secrets of a changing fantasy world in Upheaval, a text-based open world roguelike adventure. Explore the wilds around your remote village as you track down magic treasures, aid or disrupt factions, and match wits with an enigmatic Magician. Be ready: Upheaval is coming!

* Short runs: Each adventure usually takes players 30-90 minutes.
* Open ended adventure: No actions are prescribed, no quests are necessary. Follow a trail of clues to find a powerful artifact, or muck around and stumble into adventures anywhere you go (though the demo may feel a bit sparse right now, much more content is coming).
* Blind-accessible: Play with your favorite screen reader on the command line version. TTS is planned soon for the graphical version.
* Mobile-friendly: Made to be easy to play on your phone (alpha is out on Google Play, still working on iOS). Play for a few minutes or a few hours.
* Choose your own adventure gameplay: You always know what your options are in any situation, no need to type complex commands or play guess-the-word games.
* Get drunk: Invariably every player's favorite part of this game, so I thought I'd mention it.

If you want to support the project or just get notified when I'm done with it, wishlist it on Steam. Thanks!
